ROCKWALL, TX (September 23, 2014) International performers Larry and Linda Petty will bring their unique sounds to Rockwall when they entertain Friends of the Rockwall County Library members and guests on Tuesday, October 14th at the Rockwall County Library.
Linda’s bio says she started singing at age three and has yet to stop. She grew up singing in church and as a member of several gospel groups while in high school. She has performed for special events, clubs and showrooms from New York City to San Francisco, in Cancun, Mexico City, Venice, Istanbul, and Israel. She and her band, The Main Event are appearing weekly on Tuesday nights at Fernando’s Mexican Cuisine, Travis-Walk in Dallas.
Larry is one of the most sought-after soloists, recording artists, and accompanists for private parties, clubs, showrooms, special events, and conventions all around the world. Larry played six days a week at Nordstrom for 17 ½ years and performed weekly at the Fairmont Hotel in Dallas for 9 years. He is the accompanist, arranger, and musical director for Linda Petty and The Main Event, and serves as staff pianist for Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church.
For someone who loves to travel, the list of ports of call and cruise lines where the Pettys have performed sounds like every musician’s dream job. Larry played on the Princess “Love Boat” cruises from Alaska to Acapulco. He and Linda have performed on the Grand Princess Mediterranean cruises, MS Volendam inaugural cruise, MS Seven Seas Mariner Big Band Cruise to Alaska, Carnival Ecstasy to the western Caribbean, and did a guest appearance on the NCL Spirit cruise to Alaska.
The list of acts they have performed with reads like a Who’s Who of Gospel, Soul and Pop music. In addition to live performances, Linda is a recording artist, Linda & Larry have 17 CDs at this time and have had 21 selections to be in the running for a Grammy™.
Friends meets six times a year and all meetings, with the exception of the Christmas Luncheon, are held in the Rockwall County Library. The group works to promote the interest and welfare of the Library. Profits from their various fundraising events supplement the County library budget, paying for special children’s programming, adult literacy programs, subscriptions and other items.
Meetings start at 11:00 a.m. and visitors are welcome; however reservations are required for all and must be received by Tuesday, October 7th. That is also the last day to cancel prior reservations. A catered lunch is available for $16 payable at the door. For reservations, e-mail email@example.com or call 972-771-8976.
