ROCKWALL, TX. (September 17, 2014) On September 19th, Neil Simon’s farce Rumors will open Friday, September 19 at Rockwall Community Playhouse. The play is about a married couple, Ken and Chris Gorman, who are hosting a ten-year anniversary party for Charles Brock, the Deputy Mayor of New York and his wife, Myra. Unfortunately, things are not going according to plan. All the kitchen staff are gone,Myra is missing, and Charlie has shot himself in the head. As more and more guests arrive at the party, the situation gets more and more confusing, and rumors start flying.
Rumors originally opened on Broadway in 1988 and ran for 535 performances, with the original cast including: Jessica Walters, Christine Baranski, and Ken Howard, among others. Rockwall Community Playhouse’s cast, directed by Staci Cook, includes: Laura Blenk as Officer Pudney, Heather Smothers as Cassie, Marty Scott as Lenny, Stephanie Cross as Claire, Steve Golin as Glenn, Sara Ragsdale as Chris, Abel Ramos as Ken, Ryan Fisher as Officer Welch, Rae Harvill as Cookie, and Louis Harvill IV as Ernie.
The RCP Board of Directors chose to open its 20th Anniversary Season with Rumors, because it was the very first show the theatre ever staged. The 2014-15 season includes, in addition to Rumors: The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Romeo & Juliet, Wizard of Oz, Mousetrap, and teen musical Once Upon A Mattress. Rockwall Community Playhouse also offers children’s workshops and the Special Theatre At Rockwall (STAR) for Down syndrome adults. In addition, RCP holds the popular annual talent competition, Rockwall’s Got Talent.
Rockwall Community Playhouse is located at 609 E. Rusk, just 2 blocks off downtown Rockwall.
Rumors performance dates are: September 19-21, 26-28, and October 3-5. Friday and Saturday shows are at 8pm, and Sunday matinees are at 2pm.
