Rockwall County Master Gardeners to host Fall Plant Sale

ROCKWALL, TX (September 29, 2014) Now that the night temperatures have cooled down you can think about replacing tired summer plants with fresh, colorful flowers for bright autumn color.

The Rockwall County Master Gardeners will host a Fall Plant Sale and will offer you a variety of our favorites fresh from the greenhouse.

The sale will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 11 at the County Courthouse next to the library – rain or shine.

Plants will include pansies, violas, ornamental kale and cabbage, dwarf roses, snapdragons, chrysanthemums and much more.  Master Gardeners will also be available to talk to you about why we think October is our favorite month to plant and prepare beds.

Be sure and bring your wagon or cart to load up on these healthy plants.  Bring cash or your checkbook – no credit cards will be accepted.  There will be no sales tax charged and the prices will be competitive with other local businesses.  Best of all, your purchase will help support educational outreach programs offered by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service through the Rockwall County Master Gardener Association.

A special feature of the Plant Sale will be the Schubertii Allium bulbs that will be available for you to purchase at a low price.  The Schubertii Allium is a showstopper in the garden and blooms during the spring months.  The bulbs need to be planted from mid-October to mid-November and a grouping of 3 to 5 alliums is recommended.  These unique flowers also dry nicely for indoor decorations.

A second special feature of this event will be the opportunity to view the nationally recognized Dwarf Rose Trial beds located between the County Courthouse and Library.  Master Gardeners will be able to explain the process of conducting test trials on the assortment of dwarf roses.  As an added bonus, a selection of the roses in the trial beds will also be available to purchase at the Plant Sale.
