Historical Foundation welcomes new curator
ROCKWALL COUNTY, TX (September 6, 2014) Have you ever wanted to tour a museum after hours like in the movies? Here is your chance to see what happens after dark.
As the sun goes down Thursday, September 18, the Rockwall County Historical Foundation will open the doors of The Museum at Harry Parks from 6 to 8 p.m. to host a “Night at the Museum.”
Everyone is invited to this very special evening event at the historical museum to welcome the new curator, Robin Shackelford.
“I am very excited to get a chance to meet more residents of Rockwall; many have never visited the museum. The county is truly blessed to have this museum. Many counties I have seen have completely lost their heritage, and with it their charm,” said Shackelford.
“Being able to see the museum after hours is really special and really is quite different than the daytime tours,” she added. “People always ask me if there are ghosts in the museum. This is a rare opportunity for Rockwall, ghosts and all!”
The museum is housed in the Manson-LaMoreaux-Hartman house – considered to be the oldest home in Rockwall County, built in 1850.
The museum houses the most extensive collection of Rockwall County history including furnishings, clothing, books, photographs and everyday housewares from the 1800’s.
Shackelford joined the museum in late May and is busy transforming the museum into an even more spectacular venue that celebrates the history of Rockwall County.
The Rockwall County Historical Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of Rockwall County, is hosting the Night at the Museum. This event is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to come and meet the new curator and tour the exhibits at their leisure. Refreshments and appetizers will be served throughout the evening.
