ROWLETT,TX. (September 7, 2014) Every parent wants their child to succeed, and one of the simplest ways you can ensure your child’s academic success is by making a quick trip to the library. September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when the Rowlett Public Library joins with the American Library Association and public libraries nationwide to make sure that every student has the most import school supply of all – a library card.
A library card is a key resource in achieving academic success. Students of all ages can turn to the library for materials, programs and services that support academic achievement. Just a few examples of resources available at the Rowlett Public Library are the TexShare databases, eBooks and eAudiobooks available through OverDrive digital consortium, and “Tumblebooks,” interactive picture books for children.
Students can use their library cards from home, too. With a library card and home computer, students can access important educational resources, like the World Book Encyclopedia online, or EBSCO Kids and Searchasaurus databases with full -text articles. Students preparing to take college entrance exams can utilize study guides and practice tests online.
A variety of programs and activities are planned in September, including the Prime Time After School Book Club, Talk Like a Pirate Day (September 20th) and Family Saturdays, which feature movies, crafts and games. There will also be prize drawings for cardholders at the close of the month.
For more information on Library resources or how to sign up for a library card, visit the Rowlett Public Library in person at 3900 Main Street, or make a virtual visit at www.rowlett.com/library. Library hours are Monday through Thursday, 9:30 am to 8:30 pm, and Friday and Saturday, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm.
