(September 23, 2014) Texas Turnpike Corp. today announced a series of informal opportunities in which interested property owners may ask questions and make comments about the proposed Northeast Gateway toll road project expected to help address growing mobility challenges in Hunt, Collin, Rockwall and northeast Dallas counties.
“We are committed to talking with as many persons as possible who own property in the wide area we are studying between FM 1570 in Hunt County to the President George Bush Turnpike in Dallas County,” said K. Neal Barker, board member and spokesperson for Texas Turnpike Corp. “I want to emphasize that our team has NOT established what we believe is the preferred route. The conversations that we are seeking to have with area property owners will help us understand community dynamics, economic development strategies for both the public and private sectors, and, perhaps most importantly, the constraints to the various routes we are considering.“
A total of 10 different time periods at different locations have been scheduled to make it convenient for interested individuals to be a part of the process. While some persons may find it easier to meet in the evening, others may find it convenient to meet in the morning. The meetings will be held over the next two weeks. “These meetings are informal, one-on-one gatherings. We will not have any ‘formal’ presentations, but rather plenty of time to dialogue. We encourage everyone to come when they can; there are no ‘scheduled’ appointments,” said Barker.
The North Central Texas Council of Governments is recommending a combination of strategies to help meet local and regional transportation needs in the area between Greenville and Garland. Its feasibility study shows a new location highway can help improve mobility. According to NCTCOG’s 2035 Metropolitan Transportation Plan, the DFW region is expected to grow considerably because of the low-cost of living, attractive economic climate and variety of “quality of life” factors that are inviting to residents and businesses. NCTCOG’s study area encompasses two lakes; Lavon Lake and Lake Ray Hubbard. The population east of the lakes is projected to grow by 91 percent in the next 20 years, and the population west of the lakes to grow by 50 percent.
