Health Center of Helping Hands welcomes new staff members

ROCKWALL, TX (October 4, 2014) The Health Center of Helping Hands is pleased to welcome a new practice manager as well as a mid-level healthcare provider that have joined Nikki Johnston, FNP.  Nikki, a graduate of Graceland University in Independence, Missouri with a MSN, specializing in Family Nurse Practitioner, has been with the Health Center since September, 2011.

Donna Barnett, Practice Manager, has been with Helping Hands since December 2013.  She worked directly with the Controller in the Business Office before becoming Practice Manager.  Prior to coming to the agency she worked for the Rockwall Independent School District for 10 years.  Donna and her husband have lived in Rockwall for the past 18 years and have 3 children and 2 grandsons.

Amanda Underwood RN, FNP-C received her Master’s of Science in Nursing with a Family Nurse Practitioner focus from Baylor University in May of 2014. Amanda completed clinical rotations in Family Practice, Pediatrics, Geriatrics, GYN, internal medicine, and medically underserved clinics around the DFW metroplex. Prior to becoming a FNP Amanda has been a RN since 2000. Amanda is a member of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau.  She is a Texas native and has lived in the Rockwall area for 13 years with her two children.

These new staff members will be strong assets to the agency as Helping Hands continues to grow in providing a medical home to the underserved.   The Health Center of Helping Hands provided healthcare to more than 4,300 unduplicated individuals in 2013; 1,600+ of those individuals were new to the Health Center.   9,992 office visits were attended, nearly 1,000 lab tests were conducted, and more than 1,600 vaccines were administered in 2013.

The Health Center of Helping Hands serves uninsured, underinsured, cash pay, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicaid and Medicare patients.  Healthcare providers help patients manage chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma and other cardio obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPDs) and work with both area hospitals to lessen the number of persons accessing emergency departments instead of primary healthcare providers.  Visit www.RockwallHelpingHands.com for more information.
