NCTCOG announces recommendations for Blacklands Corridor/Toll Road Project

October 17, 2014 – Staff at the North Central Texas Council of Governments have finalized a recommendation for the Mobility 2035 – 2014 Amendment, and they are not proposing to add the Blacklands toll road known as Northeast Gateway to the financially constrained Metropolitan Transportation Plan and associated air quality conformity analysis.

Instead, staff are recommending the Blacklands facility should remain as a corridor for future evaluation, with updated limits, consistent with the North Central Texas Council of Governments feasibility study that has involved technical work as well as public involvement opportunities during the last 15 months.

Supporting materials for this recommendation are as follows:

NCTCOG staff will present the recommendations for the Mobility 2035 – 2014 Amendment to the Surface Transportation Technical Committee on Oct. 24. The Regional Transportation Council is scheduled to consider recommendations on Nov. 13.

Initially, staff considered including a toll road known as Northeast Gateway in the Mobility 2035 – 2014 Amendment. This preliminary recommendation was discussed at a public meeting in Rockwall on Sept. 22, which was attended by more than 1,200 individuals, as well as at RTC meetings. More recently, staff delayed asking for action on this recommendation until the Nov. 13 meeting of the RTC to allow more time to review public input.

Both the transportation technical committee and RTC will receive the supporting materials, including public comments, with details about the staff recommendation.
