ROCKWALL, TX (October 21, 2014) The Rockwall Kiwanis Club was honored during Monday’s City Council meeting as Rockwall Mayor David Sweet officially proclaimed Monday, Oct. 20, 2014 as Rockwall Kiwanis Appreciation Day in Rockwall.
The Rockwall Kiwanis was recognized for its philanthropic endeavors benefiting the county, including its Food for Kids Program providing meals to over 300 area kids each month, as well as its sponsorships of the Angel League, a fun and unique baseball program benefiting children and adults with special needs, and local Boy Scout Troop 690.
The club assists with the annual Christmas parade, Halloween candy distribution at The Harbor and its annual fundraising event, the Tri Rock, each August. Rockwall Kiwanis proudly supports Kiwanis International’s effort to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus, a deadly disease which claims the lives of nearly 60,000 newborn babies and a significant number of mothers each year. The club is also involved in several local charitable projects such as scholarships for high school seniors and wheelchair ramps for private homes, as well as presenting awards to local grade school children who have been selected by their teachers for exhibiting good behavior such as being kind, polite and helping others.
