Rockwall YMCA ribbon cutting celebration Nov 20

JER Chilton YMCA prepares to introduce newly renovated, flagship facility

ROCKWALL, TX (October 21, 2014) The JER Chilton YMCA at Rockwall is just weeks away from opening the doors to its greatly-expanded and newly-remodeled facility at 1210N. Goliad. The YMCA will hold a ribbon cutting at 6 p.m. Thursday, November 20 to celebrate the grand opening of the new facility and a new era of family fitness in Rockwall.

With state-of-the-art weight and cardio equipment, spacious locker rooms and additional multipurpose rooms, the JER Chilton YMCA will serve as a first-class fitness facility and also act as a community center for residents and businesses alike.

“It will be a really nice addition to the community where people and families can work out together,” said Bonnie LaVielle, executive director of the JER Chilton YMCA. “We’re hoping that it becomes more of a community center where in our multipurpose rooms we have meetings for the community. Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital is sponsoring our large multipurpose rooms, and once a month they will offer great programs, like blood testing and seminars on heart health.”

Phase I of the remodeling process is wrapping up, and includes a 12,000 sq. ft. expansion. It includes a 6,000-sqaure-foot aerobics and free-weights workout area, along with two locker rooms at 1,000 square feet each. A large, lavish welcome center and lobby will greet those coming in to work out or sign up for programs.

Perhaps one of the more exciting new features will be the child watch area where parents can bring their kids while they work out. A playground area attached to the child watch area will also offer kids an opportunity to have fun outdoors.

Phase II will focus on the areas found near the back of the facility, and will see a fresh look for the existing gym and aerobics room, as well as the addition of a brand new cycling studio.

LaVielle said Phase II will begin immediately following the completion of Phase I and be completed by the end of January 2015.
