HEATH, TX (November 11, 2014) The City of Heath Special Events Board has been busy laying out some very special plans for the highly anticipated 2014 Heath Holiday in the Park event, set for Friday, Dec. 5.
New treats and special surprises await at this year’s Holiday in the Park, which will be hosted rain or shine, 5:30 to 9 p.m. in Town Center Park behind City Hall, near Amy Parks Heath Elementary School.
The sweet melodies of the Amy Parks and Dorothy Pullen Elementary choirs will once again accompany the annual lighting of the Christmas trees, and this year guests can expect a few entertaining twists in the choirs’ performance.
Plan to have dinner in the new Winter Village, where some of Dallas’ most popular food trucks will roll in, including Ruthie’s Rolling Café, Easy Slider and Sorelle’s Wood Fired Pizza. There will be a cozy outdoor dining area warmed by holiday lights, plus a miniature train ride and fun activity booths for the kids, including the Rudolph’s Glow booth, writing up that Christmas list letter for Santa and putting together a packet of reindeer food to take home for Christmas Eve. Atmos Energy’s hot cocoa stand will serve up plenty of complementary cups to keep everyone toasty.
Of course, we all know the real star of the night will be old Saint Nick himself. After his grand arrival, folks will want to make sure to get their cameras ready, for Santa will visit with each child in his vintage sleigh, all nestled in a picturesque scene. Mrs. Claus and her elves will have homemade Christmas cookies nearby, baked and donated by the National Charity League and the Rockwall Women’s League.
“Holiday in the Park is my favorite event,” said Carolyn Walthers, a Special Events board member since 2012. “It’s wonderful to see families together enjoying the festivities and celebrating Christ’s birth. We hope everyone will join us this year and every year in the future.”
Special Events Board Chairman Mike Rask echoed Carolyn’s sentiments regarding the event.
“We hope that everyone in our community will look to this event as the kickoff for their Christmas season,” he said. “The Special Events Board creates a vision for the event and makes most of the decisions, but Suzanne Brooke, Norma Duncan and the Public Works crew really make these events come together.
“It is a privilege to be able to give back to this amazing community by helping to plan these events. Our goal as a board is to create events that will contribute to the sense of community that we all feel by living in Heath. We want to create those lasting memories that only a small town can provide.”
The Special Events Board recently welcomed three new members, each of whom contributed fantastic ideas for the board’s future events.
“I am very excited to be on the City of Heath Special Events Board!” said new board member Sarah Corrigan. “Heath is already a great city – we just want to enhance the experience through special events – so that it will increase pride and provide a deep sense of community.”
“I love the City of Heath, and I am so excited to serve in this fun way and help bring new ideas forward for presenting special events on a grand scale,” said Tami Hogan, also a new board member. “We want to encourage even more participation by the great citizens of our community!”
The board is made up of the following members: Mike Rask, chair; Sarah Corrigan; Tami Hogan; Jenni Knox; Mary Luxton; Eliana McGrath; and Carolyn Walthers. The group has a full slate of fun In the Park events for 2015, to follow up itsHolidayin the Park. Heath residents can look forward to Movies in the Park and the resurrection of Heath National Night Out in conjunction with the Heath Department of Public Safety. The Annual Heart of Heath 5k Run/Walk on Easter Saturday will also be followed by a spring celebration In The Park.
