ROCKWALL,TX. (November 4, 2014) Now Rockwall residents can dispose of unwanted prescription drugs any time of day or night.
A new collection unit for unwanted or unused prescription drugs was recently installed outside the entrance to the Rockwall Police Department Communication Center located at 205 W. Rusk St. It is accessible to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Through a partnership of the City of Rockwall and CVS, the police department was recently awarded a grant through CVS that provides for the drug collection unit as a safe place for residents to dispose of the medications.
There is only one drop box available in the city.
Previously, the police department had partnered with the Drug Enforcement Agency for the biannual Drug Take Back initiatives, a successful program for the city. At the last event in September, 22 boxes amounting to 501 pounds of unwanted prescription drugs were collected – almost 400 pounds more than collected in the fall of 2013.
Disposing of the over-the counter or prescribed pharmaceutical medications helps to ensure a safer community by protecting the water supply where the medications are often disposed of and by taking them out of the hands of children.
