YMCA Phase I Renovation Complete
ROCKWALL, TX (November 10, 2014) The JER Chilton YMCA at Rockwall will kick off the Phase I grand reopening for its newly renovated facility with a plethora of fun activities and programs on the weekend of Nov. 20-23.
The Y will host a ribbon cutting Thursday, Nov. 20 to begin a whole weekend’s worth of family fun, as it welcomes in new and existing members alike to experience the expanded facility. A couple of equipment demos will be on tap for Friday’s schedule, as well as a full slate of YMCA programs such as Pickle Ball, Line Dancing, U-Jam, BodyPump, Small Fry Basketball and more. Saturday and Sunday offer even more entertainment with swim lessons, child dance and cheerleading demos, and a rubber duck race in the pool.
“During our normal hours of operation those three days we will be showcasing all of our programs, giving away nice gifts to everyone that joins that weekend and having great door prizes to give away,” said Bonnie LaVielle, executive director of the JER Chilton YMCA. “We will have food trucks there part of the day on Saturday also. It should be a very fun festive occasion.”
Residents are invited to the ribbon cutting on Thursday evening, which will begin at 6 p.m. City officials will be on hand and a performance from a children’s choir will entertain guests beginning at 6:15 p.m. in the Y’s spacious new lobby. Attendees will then be treated to a tour of the new facility beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Phase I of the renovation process expanded the Y an additional 12,000 square feet, an area that encompasses a new-look 6,000-sqaure-foot aerobics and free-weights workout area, two locker rooms (one for men and one for women) set at 1,000 square feet each, and a large, lavish welcome center and lobby. The Y at Rockwall now holds close to $172,000 worth of equipment, including 18 new PVS stands and several new treadmills, ellipticals and step mills. A child watch area was also added for parents to enjoy the convenience of being able to work out while keeping an eye on the kiddos.
The completion of Phase I will immediately begin the next phase of the renovation project, which will add a fresh look to the existing gym and aerobics room as well as a brand new cycling studio. Phase II is expected to be completed by the end of January 2015.
*Please note that the JER Chilton YMCA facility will be closed Monday, Nov. 17 through Thursday, Nov. 20 to move equipment and prepare for the Grand Opening Weekend on Friday, Nov. 21 through Sunday, Nov. 23. The pool will remain open Monday, Nov. 17 through Wednesday, Nov. 19. Those who join during the Grand Opening Celebration will receive a special discounted Joiner Fee.
