City of Rockwall General Election slated for May 9

ROCKWALL, TX (Dec. 31, 2014) January 28 is officially the first day to file to run for office in the City of Rockwall General Election which will be held May 9, 2015. The mayor and city council Places 1, 3 and 5 will be on the ballot, each for two-year terms. Also on the ballot will be Place 2, which will fill an unexpired, one-year term. The last day for candidates to file for a place on the ballot is February 27 at 5 p.m.

Mayor Jim Pruitt is eligible to run for an additional two-year term in office as mayor. In addition, Council Members David White (Place 1), Bennie Daniels (Place 3) and Scott Milder (Place 5) are also all eligible to run for an additional two-year term according to the city’s charter. John Hohenshelt has been serving in Place 2 since the city council appointed him, by charter, to fill Jim Pruitt’s position after he took over as mayor on December 15, 2014. Place 2 will be on the ballot to fill this one-year, unexpired term, and Mr. Hohenshelt is eligible to run in this position if he so choses.

Informational candidate packets will be available from the City Secretary’s office beginning the week of January 5. Paperwork must be filed with the City Secretary on the third floor of Rockwall City Hall, located at 385 South Goliad Street. It is anticipated that the city’s election will be administered by the Rockwall County Elections Administrator. More extensive election related information will be available in the coming weeks on the county’s web site at www.rockwallcountytexas.com/elections or by calling (972) 204-6200.

Early voting will be held April 27 thru May 5 at the Rockwall County Elections office, which is now located at 915 Whitmore Dr., #D, Rockwall, TX 75087. Election day voting will be held May 9 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Utley Middle School cafeteria. Applications for ballots by mail must be requested from and mailed to the Rockwall County Elections Administrators Office. Applications must be received no later than the close of business on April 24.
