Rockwall County Master Gardeners to host vegetable gardening classes in January

ROCKWALL COUNTY, TX (Dec. 1, 2014) Classes on vegetable gardening will once again be conducted by certified local Master Gardeners. Classes will be:

Saturday, January 10 – Successful Vegetable Gardening

1:00 to 3:00 p.m.  at the Rockwall County Extension Office, E. 915 Whitmore St., Suite B

Cost:  $15.00

Backyard vegetable gardening is becoming a popular pastime and learning basic keys to success will help home gardeners harvest a bounty of fresh produce.  Success starts with site selection and soil preparation.  Participants will also gain valuable information to help face challenges of drought, pests and diseases.

Saturday, January 17 – Back to Basics: How to Start Seeds Indoors

1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Rockwall County Extension Office, E. 915 Whitmore St., Suite B

Cost:  $15.00

Starting transplants from seeds in your home is a good way to get a head start on the growing season.  At least 4 to 8 weeks of time can be cut from the time required between planting and harvesting by setting vigorous transplants rather than seeds into the garden.  Also, growing your own plants may be the only way to cultivate a new or special variety of a vegetable or ornamental plant.

The Master Gardener Class series has proven to be popular, so be sure and reserve your seat!  The classes are limited to 20 participants and pre-registration is required.  A minimum number of participants must be paid and pre-registered by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7.   The class will be cancelled and money refunded if not enough participants have paid and pre-registered.

Pay and preregister by mail or by delivering your completed registration form and class fee to the Rockwall County Extension Office, 915 E. Whitmore St. Suite B, Rockwall, Texas  75087.   Make checks payable to RCMGA.  Complete details and a registration form are available on:  www.rockmga.org.
