City of Rockwall gets ‘Excellent’ Rating for Transparency

ROCKWALL, TX (Jan. 26, 2015) The City of Rockwall received an excellent rating and ranked among the best in this area related to transparency in handling and responding to requests for public information. The City was one of 113 local agencies audited by The Dallas Morning News over a period of one year, a study in which the newspaper assessed how well state laws were followed regarding open access to information about how taxpayer money is spent and whether best practices were followed.

The City of Rockwall’s compliance rating was an “A,” or excellent, in the following four categories: request best practices, request compliance, web customer service, and online meeting notices. In light of our strong commitment to professionalism in the area of handling open records requests, our office is honored to receive recognition for our efforts and is proud to be recognized as one of the best in North Texas regarding responsiveness and transparency,” said City Secretary, Kristy Ashberry.

“The Rockwall City Council has always made transparency a main focus in serving the citizens of Rockwall. I’m very proud of the City Secretary and her staff for implementing that philosophy and for this recognition,” said Mayor Jim Pruitt.
