Volunteer opportunities at Helping Hands on MLK Day

ROCKWALL COUNTY, TX (Jan. 10, 2015) Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: “What are you doing for others?'”

Each year, Americans across the country answer that question by coming together on the King Holiday to serve their neighbors and communities.

MLK Day is a chance to start the year off right by making an impact in your Rockwall community. Join Helping Hands on Monday, January 19 anytime between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to volunteer at the agency.

There are three ways to serve:

First, serve at the main Helping Hands building (950 Williams Street in Rockwall).  You can help clean out and stock the food pantry, or you can help clean and sort merchandise for the Centsible Thrift Store.  Two-hour slots are available from 10 am – 4 pm, and you can sign up here:  www.mysignup.com/helpinghandsdayofservice.

You must be 17 years old or older to volunteer onsite at Helping Hands.  However, that does not mean there is not a way for your whole family to participate.  Consider option two.

Second, commit a couple hours to go through your neighborhood and collect much-needed items for the Emergency Assistance and Relief arm of Helping Hands.  By going on a treasure hunt for used coatswinter gearblankets, and canned food in your neighborhood you can help someone be warm and fed for these cold winter days.

Third, if you are a medical professional, then your help would be much appreciated at the Reeves Medical Center (102 South 1st Street).  Offering a few hours on MLK Day of Service helps the whole community to be healthy.

If you choose option One or Three, you can sign up here: www.mysignup.com/helpinghandsdayofservice.  If you choose option Two, then please drop of the items you collect to Helping Hands (950 Williams Street, Rockwall).
