David Billings announces candidacy for Fate City Council

FATE, TX (Feb. 18, 2015) David Billings recently announced his candidacy for Fate’s City Council Place 5 in the May 2015 General Election.

“We continue to face many challenges in our community.  As we enter a new era in politics and continue to face uncertain economic times, it is critical that we elect leaders who have the courage and leadership skills to create innovative solutions to meet these new challenges. We need critical public services, updated infrastructure to support our growth, and sound financial policies so that we are not facing another tax hike tomorrow.   We need to develop athletic opportunities for our children and varied recreational opportunities for our senior citizens.  In fact, improving the quality of life for the residents of the City of Fate is a key issue facing our community,” Billings wrote in his announcement.

“Prior to my move to Fate, Texas, I lived in Forks Township, Pennsylvania (located near Easton, PA in the Lehigh Valley) for 10 years. During my tenure in Pennsylvania, I became deeply involved in the community by being active in my church and being elected to various leadership positions in my house of worship and in other churches within the Diocese of Bethlehem, PA.  I was and remain an active official for USA swimming, coached a girls’ softball team, and volunteered with various Lehigh Valley clubs and organizations. Beside my varied community service, I was appointed to serve as a member of the Forks Township Planning Commission.”

“I campaigned and was elected to the Forks Township Board of Supervisors (City Council) in 2010 and served honorably on the Board, vowing to serve the best interests of the growing Forks Township population.  My platform was to conduct myself without being biased and to work in the spirit of a bipartisan manner.  I served in this capacity until my resignation in July 2013, due to my relocation to Texas. I continued my community involvement in my new community by serving on the Fate Planning and Zoning Commission and participating in our Comprehensive Plan Meeting. I am an active official for USA swimming of North Texas and a member of the Rockwall Area Chamber of Commerce.”

“I earned my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Management from Virginia Wesleyan College, an MBA from Moravian College, and attended Northwestern University and Duke University for executive education.  My professional career at AT&T has spanned many years, and I have held various leadership positions within the company. I proudly served the United States of America with honor and distinction as a member of the Navy.”

“I believe my extensive community involvement, combined with my leadership experience, uniquely qualifies me as an ideal candidate for change in Fate local government.  As your newest City Council Member, I will serve with integrity, fairness, courage, and concern for all members of our community.  I will seek out diverse ideas and opinions to formulate new and creative solutions to our complex issues.”

“I look forward to creating a new era of leadership.  I especially look forward to meeting all of my neighbors while on the campaign trail.  We will be discussing our future one handshake at a time!”
