City Council, City Charter Election to be held May 9

ROCKWALL, TX (March 8, 2015) The filing period for those wishing to run for Rockwall City Council on the May 9 ballot ended on Friday, February 27th at 5:00 p.m. Candidates who filed to run for the various positions include the following (in no particular order):

Mayor

Jim Pruitt

Dennis Lewis

Place 1

David White

Place 2

John Hohenshelt

Place 3

Kevin Fowler

Freddie Jackson

Place 5

Scott Milder

The Mayor and City Council Places 1, 3 and 5 will be on the ballot, each for two-year terms. Place 2 will appear on the ballot to fill a one-year, unexpired term. Jim Pruitt was appointed as Mayor and began serving in this capacity mid-December of last year. He is seeking to retain his position as Mayor on the May 9 ballot. Dennis Lewis, who currently serves in Place 4 on the city council and as Mayor Pro Tem, is also seeking election to the office of Mayor. Since no “resign to run” provision exists in the Rockwall City Charter, should Lewis not be elected as Mayor on May 9, he may still remain on the city council to finish out the remainder of his Place 4 term (one year).

Incumbent candidates for Places 1, 2, and 5 did not draw any opponents for the May 9 race. Place 3, which is currently occupied by Councilmember Bennie Daniels who will not be seeking re-election, has resulted in two candidates – Rockwall residents Kevin Fowler and Freddie Jackson.

Also on the May 9 ballot for the City of Rockwall will be various ballot proposals pertaining to proposed amendments to the City Charter. For more details related to these various propositions, please visit the city’s website at www.rockwall.com/meetings/ and look for the “Charter Review Commission” heading.
