New boardwalk trail through Scenic Point Park to be completed by summer

ROCKWALL/ROWLETT, TX (March 18, 2015) Those who love taking a nice walk through Scenic Point Park will soon have a brand new walking trail to stroll down – and just in time for the summer, no less!

The new ¼ -mile boardwalk trail will take visitors into the park and then loop back around. Walkers and runners can access the boardwalk from the Rowlett side of the State Highway 66 bridge connecting Rowlett and Rockwall, with the entrance located on the northwest side of the bridge.

Scenic Point Park, located in the northeast quadrant of the city of the Rowlett side of the two-mile bridge to Rockwall, is considered the gateway into Rowlett. Unique features include its location on the shoreline of Lake Ray Hubbard, and a little beach on the north side of the spur formed by the old Highway 66. Small alcoves with intimate viewing to the lake exist along the entire stretch of the park.

The boardwalk is a part of the 2010 Parks and Recreation Master Plan and will enhance the development currently in the works for the area adjacent to the park land.

“Studies have shown that parks increase the health, wellness and property values,” said Parks Division Manager Keith Flournoy. “Anytime we can establish new parks in our communities it is a definite win for our citizens and businesses.”

According to Flournoy, construction for the new trail began back in January as a part of Phase I of what will end up being a two- or three-phase project.

Look for the new boardwalk to be completed by July – perfect timing for a nice leisurely summer stroll through Scenic Point Park!
