Youth Football at JER Chilton YMCA at Rockwall – It’s Not Just a Game
ROCKWALL, TX (March 16, 2015) Spring Break may have just ended, but for the coaches, staff and players at JER Chilton YMCA at Rockwall, that means it’s time to gear up for football season. New this year is the Y’s revamped Flag Football Program – the only one of its kind in the area for youth in grades K-6.
Registration is currently underway, offering families the chance to take advantage of discounted rates for early sign-up. Through April 12, the cost is only $55 for those with a Y Family Membership; $95 for those without. After April 12, the cost increases to $75 for those with a Y Family Membership; $115 for those without. Registration closes on May 10.
“Our staff and coaches are committed to teaching the first time player, as well helping to further develop skills for the more advanced player. Whether your child is in kindergarten or 6th grade, a first time player or in their sixth year, the goal of the YMCA is to have the children to play football with integrity and true sportsmanship while always putting safety first,” said Bill Cadman, YMCA Sports Director.
Cadman emphasized that YMCA coaches are held to the highest standards and serve as role models for developing youth.
“Regardless of the outcome of the game, win or lose, YMCA coaches teach honor and respect, teamwork and positive attitude,” Cadman said. “Our Flag Football program not only helps to hone skills, but it forms friendships, builds confidence – making it more than just a game. It’s something the kids look forward to, and they become better players – and better people – because of it.”
This year’s football program is a departure from the 2014 season, when Tackle Football was also offered. “This year, we’re putting all of our focus on Flag Football, giving 110 percent of our effort and attention to kids in kindergarten through sixth grade who want to play recreational football in a fun, safe and positive environment,” Cadman said.
Every player is guaranteed a minimum of 25% playing time in every game, regardless of skill level And as with every program the YMCA offers, no child will be turned away for inability to pay.
