(ROCKWALL, TX – May 13, 2015) This Sunday, May 17, the Metro East Division of the Dallas Builders Association will host its 10th annual Cars for CASA auto show at The Harbor in Rockwall.
The money raised at the event will benefit Lone Star CASA, Inc., a volunteer movement dedicated to defending abused and neglected children in court. Lucille Bell, Executive Director of Lone Star CASA explained that CASA is an acronym for Court Appointed Special Advocates.
“The mission of Lone Star CASA is to provide trained community volunteers to advocate for the best interests of the children of Rockwall and Kaufman Counties who come into the court system as a result of abuse or neglect,” Bell said.
Cars for CASA is held annually with the help of 40 volunteers. The initial show in 2005 featured 80 cars and raised $2,600. This year’s show will feature 350 cars and is projected to raise $50,000.
“We look forward to Cars for CASA each year not only because it is important to us financially, but also because it is an opportunity for us to raise awareness about the problem of child abuse and neglect and the need for advocates for children who have been removed from their home and placed in the court system,” Bell said.
Dave Hambley, Board President of the Dallas Builders Association said he is enthusiastic to play a role in helping the CASA kids rebuild their lives. Hambley said the auto show now accounts for approximately 20% of Lonestar CASA’s annual budget.
“The Cars for CASA show is a great way to support a worthy cause and raise awareness of the CASA role in our children’s lives,” Hambley said.
This year’s Cars for CASA event will include food and beverages from local restaurants, door prizes, a live DJ, a 50/50 pot, and a silent auction. CASA will also have a booth set up for community members to learn more about their organization.
Some of the most notable featured cars will include classic Mustangs and Corvettes, several Shelby Cobra’s, Vintage Pontiac GTO’s, and new cars and trucks from the dealerships that help sponsor the show.
Cars for CASA is sponsored by The City of Rockwall, Rockwall Dodge, Farmers Electric Cooperative, The Texas Motor Speedway Club, Rusty Wallis VW, Toyota of Rockwall, Heritage GMC, Dallas Harley Davidson and many others.
