Cancer Survivors Day makes history on Rockwall Square

(ROCKWALL, TX – June 8, 2015) Cancer survivors throughout the community delighted in free gifts and fun entertainment this weekend during a celebration held in their honor by Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Rockwall and Texas Oncology.

Rockwall’s inaugural event was held on the Downtown Square on National Cancer Survivors Day, Sunday, June 7.

Cancer survivors gathered together along with caregivers, healthcare professionals, family and friends to enjoy face paintings, a photo booth, free items such as water bottles and wrist bands from the Texas Health and Texas Oncology tables, and more as they reveled in their rewarding and inspiring lives after cancer.

Rockwall-based Mike & The Mix/1st Call Entertainment provided live music.

A National Cancer Survivors Day banner was hung up for folks to write messages of encouragement to loved ones diagnosed with cancer, as well as for cancer survivors to express their gratitude to all who helped them in their battle with cancer.

Hundreds of communities throughout the United States, Canada and many other participating countries celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day on the first Sunday in June each year. Cancer survivors, supporters and healthcare professionals unite in a symbolic festivity to honor cancer survivors, to bring awareness to the ongoing challenges of cancer survivorship and to recognize the fact that cancer survivors are living longer, better and more productive lives than ever before.
