Lake Rockwall Estates flood fundraising effort underway

(ROCKWALL, TX – June 4, 2015) Local fundraising efforts are underway to assist victims of flooding associated with the filling of Wallace Lake by recent rainfall events. Local community leaders who have agreed to coordinate local private fundraising efforts include:

  • Bennie Daniels
  • John White
  • David Smith
  • Sandy Doyle
  • Larry Parks
  • Dennis Bailey

The group has met and is off to a great start in fundraising to ensure that those who need help continue to receive that help. Several families are currently being provided assistance through Rockwall County Helping Hands with local hotel vouchers and food. Several who initially declined that help have now indicated that they need it. These needs will certainly also be met. Residents whose homes have flooded may contact Helping Hands at 972-771-4357 to make those arrangements.

Fire Chief Mark Poindexter is heading the City’s efforts. Meetings with affected residents have been scheduled with representatives of the various departments of the City, Rockwall County Helping Hands, the Red Cross, and others available to answer questions and gather additional information needed to assist residents. The Rockwall Housing Development Corporation representatives will also be on hand and has joined the partnership to provide assistance.

Although the County Emergency Management Coordinator continues to search for any Federal or State assistance for flood victims, the losses in Rockwall County to date have not reached the level that qualifies local victims for Federal or State assistance. In the meantime, local fundraising has begun to continue helping those in need.

Local fundraisers request that contributions be made to Rockwall County Helping Hands, 850 Williams Street, Rockwall, TX 75087 and that contributions be clearly marked “flood assistance.” Helping Hands will administer the funds. If you can make a contribution, you may do so either by mailing the contribution to the above address, deliver your contribution in person to Helping Hands, or you can call Helping Hands at 972-771-4357 with any questions that you may have. You may also contact any of the members of the fundraising committee.
