ROCKWALL, TX (June 4, 2015) The 2nd annual Rockwall Country Fair took place last weekend right beside the County Courthouse. This year admission was free, and guests had the opportunity to shop, eat, play and ride all day long.
Due to unexpected weather complications, the fair had a delayed opening and was almost canceled for the day. But Rockwall Soroptimist member Palua Barlow said going ahead with the fair definitely turned out to be the right decision.
“We’re really pleased with the turn out,” Barlow said. “We had a rough start, but the organizers stuck to their guns.”
Soroptimist member Erin Atkins agreed.
“The Rockwall Country Fair was a great success,” Atkins said. “The weather had me a little worried but it turned out to be a wonderful day. I have received nothing but positive feedback.”
Soroptimist held a contest for non-profit organizations, challenging them to set up their most creative Country booth and provide free games. The winners for the best decorated booth were the members of the Rockwall County GOP, who received $50 towards their organization.
GOP Precinct Chair Patty Muggeo said she was thrilled to receive the nomination.
“We are so excited,” Muggeo said. “It was difficult with the rain and we were worried about setting up, but it was worth it.”
Muggeo said the GOP booth received lots of help from the Boy Scouts in Troop 83, who assisted with the set up and maintenance at the fair.
“They are going around helping everybody,” Muggeo said. “I have nothing but good things to say. They have been so fantastic.”
Atkins said this year’s fair was so successful, next year the fair will return for sure.
“The club is already discussing plans for next year’s fair,” Atkins said. “I would like to thank everyone who supported the event and braved the rain to participate.”
