(ROCKWALL, TX – July 31, 2015) The public is welcome as the Uptown Downtown Art Gallery and Studio, located at 301 N. San Jacinto, hosts a Wine & Appetizer Reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, August 7. The event will feature the Mayan and Aztec collection of paintings by the Renaissance woman of Rockwall, Donna Nelson. In addition, the amazing artistry of Donna’s photography will also be on exhibit. This is the first time this work has been shown in a public venue.
Donna’s use of color, subject matter and portrayal of culture in her paintings and photography make this diminutive woman a true “giant” in her field. She has achieved more in her lifetime than the bucket list of 20 people. Back in the fifties after attending SMU, she entered into the male-dominated world of underwater photographer. From that time on she became a renowned lecturer and world traveler. She did a series of lectures on the cultures of the Himalayas based on her own mountain climbing adventures. She was invited to lecture with the Council on World Affairs.
In 1990 she moved to Santa Fe where she transitioned from photography to painting and studied at the Valdez Art center under three master artists. Her paintings are based on her travels in Mexico.
The August 7th event will also include the abstract expressionism of emerging artist Misty Hornsby- Odom; the vibrant art of one of Rockwall’s finest, the award-winning Brenda Elam; and the wonderful wood carvings of the late Gerald Smith.
Gallery owners Bob Chilton, H. Doug Agee, Betty Jean Hoaglund and James and Nancy Kuntz will also be exhibiting their latest work.
Enjoy a night of art, wine, food and conversation at what has become the most popular art gallery in the area.
