Rockwall’s School of Rock opens with smashing celebration

Why cut a ribbon when you can smash a guitar?

(ROCKWALL, TX – August 16, 2015) The Rockwall Area Chamber of Commerce and the community welcomed the new School of Rock to its downtown home rock-n’-roll style with a spectacular guitar smashing during a grand opening event Friday, Aug. 14.

In lieu of a traditional ribbon cutting, Heath Mayor Lorne Liecthy and Rockwall County Commissioner Cliff Sevier gave a pair of acoustic guitars what-for, smashing the instruments to splinters, as on-lookers were then treated to a rock-out performance inside the school’s Pink Floyd room.

“It’s a real exciting day for all of us,” said School of Rock co-owner /general manager Stuart Smith. “The partnership we have with the Chamber of Commerce, the City of Rockwall and the county, they made this so easy and so much fun, and the downtown merchants and the support that we’ve had from everybody helping to make this dream come into a reality.”

Folks also enjoyed tours of the facility – located at 206 E. Washington St. – plus demos, food and drink, and performances by School of Rock House Bands from Dallas, Ft. Worth and McKinney on the San Jacinto Plaza Music Stage.

School of Rock’s performance-based program gives those ages six to adult the opportunity to learn music by playing music as they develop their confidence and musicianship with a variety of programs designed for all skill levels.

School of Rock offers programs designed for beginning and advanced students alike, including Rock 101, Performance Program, Dean’s List, Rookies, Grad School, Band Coaching and Summer Camp.
