Fulton School of Heath welcomes new varsity basketball coach

(ROCKWALL/HEATH, TX – September 16, 2015) The Fulton School of Heath has announced the hiring of Dan Rosenfield as its  new varsity basketball coach.

The Connecticut native has held a variety of positions in education, including teaching, coaching, counseling and administrative positions in both secondary schools and colleges.  He holds a B.A. degree in government from Windham College and an M.Ed  with a concentration in counseling from Plymouth State University.

Rosenfield began his career in education at independent secondary schools in Massachusetts and New York (where he had the top ranked team in the state).  His players went on to play basketball at colleges and universities including Johns Hopkins, Austin Peay, State University of New York, Lincoln Memorial, Eastern Michigan, North Texas, and Arizona State.  Three played professionally.

After teaching, coaching, and counseling in secondary schools, Rosenfield moved into college administration, where he served as a Director of Admissions, Dean of Admissions, and Dean of Enrollment management for nearly 35 years.

After retiring from the position of Dean of Enrollment at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (the Ragin’ Cajuns), Rosenfield decided to return to coaching, which he calls his “first love”.

“I’m very excited about coming to Fulton.  It’s an academics-first school with small classes, a friendly faculty, and the kind of students who make teaching and coaching enjoyable,” Rosenfield said.  “And, it’s going to be great fun working with (athletic director) J.B. Bryant, a former professional athlete who is committed to building a first-class athletic program.”

Rosenfield visited Fulton recently, and enjoyed the opportunity to watch his new team play pickup basketball.  “We’re not going to be very big, but I watched 10 student-athletes willing to play hard on blacktop for 40 minutes on a humid 90 degree day.  That says a lot about their attitude and commitment.  I can’t wait to get started.”

Rosenfield and his wife, Mary (a secondary school and college instructor) have two children living in New York City;  Lizi, a teacher, and Matt, a website designer and art mover.
