Students named National Merit Semifinalists
Jennifer DeMars, Wesley Scivetti and Peyton Young join a long tradition of Rockwall ISD National Merit Semifinalists. In the past ten years, 31 other students have received this national honor which is one of the most prestigious awards available to high school seniors.
Approximately 16,000 seniors nationwide are named Semifinalists from the more than 1.5 million students who took the qualifying test. A Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record through-out high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.
In the spring of 2016, 2,500 of the Semifinalists will be named National Merit Scholars. These scholars and receive scholarships from The National Merit Scholarship Corporation who sponsors the qualifying test and awards. In addition, more than 3,900 college-sponsored scholarships are available to National Merit awardees.
