Virtual pediatric emergency consultations provided by Children’s Health
(ROCKWALL, TX – September 16, 2015) Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Rockwall is excited to join the Children’s Health telemedicine network, offering an added layer of expertise for the community’s youngest patients. Through this innovative program, the on-site Texas Health Rockwall medical treatment team will consult virtually with pediatric emergency medicine physicians at Children’s Medical Center Dallas, the flagship hospital of Children’s Health and pediatric teaching hospital for UT Southwestern Children’s Health medical staff.
With two emergency rooms in Rockwall, Texas Health Rockwall has the ability to care for patients across the spectrum of the county. Using leading-edge video and audio tools, telemedicine allows the on-site emergency room physicians to securely share patient vitals, laboratory tests and imaging results in real-time with an off-site pediatric emergency medical physician. The telemedicine services allow for pediatric patients with a complex medical history or emergency situation to receive enhanced care. Pediatric patients might be observed for serious conditions including potential infectious disease, severe illness, poisoning, traumatic injuries and acute respiratory illnesses.

This arrangement allows physicians at both hospitals to exchange information about the patient’s condition in real time. The shared communication allows open dialogue regarding condition, treatment and whether transfer to a specialized pediatric facility would be recommended.
“This is one of the first partnerships in the area that offers pediatric telemedicine emergency services,” says Cindy Paris, hospital president. “We worked with Children’s Health a long time to put in place a system that works as well as this one does. The early feedback has been very positive and our staff is excited to be able to offer added assurance through the collaboration.”
Access to the telemedicine network is available through the North Rockwall emergency room located on Lakeshore Drive at SH 205 in North Rockwall.
