(ROCKWALL, TX – October 16, 2015) The J.E.R. Chilton YMCA at Rockwall traditionally hosts a memorial 5K each year to pay tribute to Christian Corneau, a 14-year-old Rockwall student who was struck by a car and fatally injured while skateboarding near his home.

To grow participation in an already popular event and to help raise funds for the YMCA’s Angel Camp program, the Y will introduce something new this year – a three week Fitness Challenge, which wraps up with a Fitness Expo celebration.

Both the Fitness Challenge and the Fitness Expo are open to the entire community, ages 10 and up, regardless of whether they are members of the Y. All participants have to do is register ($30) and download the Map My Fitness app to get started.

Registration is available at any time during the three week Fitness Challenge period, which officially begins Monday, October 19 and runs through 11:59 p.m. Friday, November 13. The Fitness Expo will be 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Saturday, November 14.

Fitness Challenge participants (age 10 and up) will log and track every workout they do in the Map My Fitness app. The top three male and top three female participants with the most time logged at the end of the Fitness Challenge will be awarded fabulous prizes!

“Hopefully, since this is a new event, our members and potential new members will be re-engaged and motivated to try something different!” said YMCA Wellness Coach Christian “Jude” McCarthy, who is coordinating the event.

Fitness Challenge winners will be announced and prizes awarded at the November 14th Fitness Expo celebration.

“This expo is a perfect opportunity for everyone to learn what types of fitness classes we offer at the YMCA, as well as showcasing new formats that have taken the fitness industry by storm!” said Jude.

You’ll be able to experience:

Yoga

Pilates

Athletic Conditioning

Bolly X

BodyPump

RIPPED

BodyShred

Irish Step Dance

Belly Dance

Boomer Fit

Zumba

Cardio Dance

Sock Hop Dance

Spinnervals

In addition to the exciting fitness classes, there will also be several community health and wellness booths, games, event shirts and goody bags! DJ Swirvin’ Irvin will also be in the house.

One of the games featured will be a “pin the tail” inspired game where you get to “pin the class” on an empty class schedule. The class formats with the most popularity at the pinned times will be tested with the Y’s January 2016 class schedule.

Child Watch will be provided during Expo for both members and potential new members.
