Heath resident, former Boston Red Sox draftee, nabs first hole-in-one

(ROCKWALL/HEATH, TX – October 19, 2015) Four friends from Heath experienced a near once-in-a-lifetime occurrence on Thursday October 15, 2015 when Billy Wayne “Bubba” Bell captured his first hole-in-one at Dallas Athletic Club’s Gold Course during the 2015 “Tradition” Golf Tournament.

Bell is no stranger to athleticism. He was a stand-out center fielder for North Lamar High School in Paris, Texas before lettering with Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. In 2005, Bubba was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the MLB draft. He played in the Boston Red Sox, Clevland Indians and New York Mets organizations; finishing his pro career with the Buffalo Bisons. He now works in the commercial concrete and aggregate industry with Martin Marietta Materials.

Bubba’s golf partners Justin Holland, Gus Antos and Jade Porter were present to watch his 189 yard 9 iron shot take one bounce and land in the cup on the Gold Course’s 5th hole par 3.

“I didn’t really like the way the ball came off the club; I hit it a little thin,” exclaimed Bell. “Then it took a one-hop bounce – right in the cup. I couldn’t believe it!”

Submitted by Justin Holland, Regal Realtors and fellow golfer.
