(ROCKWALL, TX – October 20, 2015) The Rockwall City Council unanimously approved a resolution supporting Proposition 7, a constitutional amendment that will appear on the November 3, 2015 ballot for voter approval. If approved, Proposition 7 would require the State to allocate portions of certain sales, use tax, and motor vehicle sales revenue to be used for non-tolled roadway projects and to pay for transportation related debt. Information provided by the North Central Texas Council of Governments indicates the proposed amendment would result in an additional $3 billion per year for the State Highway Fund by year 2020. When funding from the State has been available, the Rockwall County Transportation Consortium (which includes Rockwall County and all of the cities in the County) has historically been successful in securing roadway improvements to the benefit of local roadway transportation.
Although this would not fully fund the State’s overall transportation needs, it represents a key step toward securing funding for transportation projects in Texas. Early voting is from October 19th through October 30th. The general election is on Tuesday, November 3, 2015.
