No action taken yet, but City Council may consider agenda item at next meeting.
(ROCKWALL, TX – Jan. 20, 2016) The Rockwall City Council held a work session last night before their regular meeting, where Dan Allgeier, Senior Vice President of NuRock Companies, presented his company’s plan for affordable housing and tax credits. The Council listened and asked questions, but took no action on the proposal.
Allgeier requested that the Council consider a resolution on an upcoming agenda related to NuRock’s grant application for tax credit funding. He added that if the plan lacked the City’s support, it likely would fail in the competitive grant application process.
The property under consideration is a vacant lot located across from the Evergreen Senior Living facility at 1325 South Goliad Street. Zoning at this site does not currently allow for multi-family residential use, and NuRock would have to submit a formal zoning change request, which would require public hearings before the planning and zoning commission and the City Council. To date, no zoning change application has been submitted.
The proposed NuRock project includes 28 one bedroom units, 68 two bedroom units, and 40 three bedroom units. For most of those, rental rates for would be based on a resident’s income, however 21 units would not be income restricted.
