(ROCKWALL, TX – Jan. 28, 2016) The Rockwall City Council has approved the formation of an Airport Advisory Board for the Ralph M. Hall / Rockwall Municipal Airport in January 2016. The Airport Advisory Board will consist of seven members, all of whom must be resident citizens and qualified voters of the city, in accordance with the City of Rockwall’s charter. Board members should be representative of the community, including citizens interested in airport-related business and/or aviation.
Board member terms will be for two (2) years with a chairperson and vice-chairperson being elected from among its members. Each of these positions will be held for a period of one (1) year. Board members will serve without compensation, and, per city council policy, a maximum of six possible years of service (3 terms) may be served. After six years of service, board members must ‘sit out’ for at least one year before the City Council may again consider them for service on this particular board.
Meetings will be held at least on a quarterly or on an ‘as needed basis’ as determined by the Chair, the City Manager’s appointed staff liaison, or by direction from the City Council. The purpose of the Airport Advisory Board is to provide recommendations to the City Council, and its responsibilities and duties will include, but not be limited to the following:
• Make recommendations on both short-term and long-term strategic planning;
• Make recommendations on how to use the airport for local and regional economic development opportunities;
• Advise the City Council on how to market the airport to new customers;
• Make recommendations as to how to build a partnership with all stakeholders for a successful airport;
• Undertake direction from the City Council on any other related matters.
