Rockwall ISD Superintendent Jeff Bailey announces retirement

(ROCKWALL, TX – Jan. 6, 2016) Today Jeff Bailey, Rockwall Independent School District superintendent, announced his plans to retire from his position effective August 31, 2016.

Mr. Bailey said, “After thoughtful consideration and discussion with my family, I know that now is the right time for me to start a new chapter in my life. It is bittersweet to announce my retirement from an exceptional district. It has been my sincere pleasure to serve as your superintendent of schools for the past six years. I have come to respect the ‘can do’ spirit that typifies people in Rockwall ISD as well as a genuine concern for one another. I want to thank our teachers, staff and administrators for their dedication as educational professionals as they inspire, encourage and prepare our students for the future. I also want to thank the Rockwall ISD school board for having the confidence in me to hire me as superintendent in 2009-2010. I will look back on the last seven years with fond memories and appreciate the lasting friendships I’ve been blessed to develop during my time here. God bless this community as well as the students and staff members of Rockwall ISD.”

Mr. Bailey’s career in education spans 37 years as a teacher, coach, high school assistant principal, high school principal, director of human resources, area superintendent and deputy superintendent in Plano ISD and deputy superintendent and superintendent in Rockwall ISD. Under his leadership as superintendent, the district has achieved significant accomplishments: strong academic performance with all schools receiving the highest state rating, recent successful passage of a $258 million bond referendum, sound fiscal fund balance along with numerous financial accountability awards for transparency while reducing the tax rate, and establishing the International Baccalaureate program at both Rockwall High School and Rockwall Heath High Schools with the first graduating class of IB students this spring.

“Words cannot express our gratitude to Mr. Bailey for his outstanding leadership in our district. Through times good and bad, Mr. Bailey has maintained integrity and kept students at the center of his decisions. He has guided our district to great heights and has set us on a path of continued future success and excellence. We will miss Mr. Bailey’s wise guidance and leadership, but wish him a wonderful and blessed retirement,” said Rockwall ISD School Board President Linda Mitchell Duran. Moving forward, the Board of Trustees will begin the process of securing a search firm to hire a new superintendent. The process will include community, teacher, staff and administrative input. The Board hopes to have a new superintendent named by late spring 2016.
