City of Rockwall May 7, 2016 General Election to be Cancelled

(ROCKWALL, TX – Feb. 24, 2016) The City of Rockwall recently called an election to be held on May 7, 2016 for the purpose of electing three City Council Members, one each for Places 2, 4 and 6. All three incumbents, including John Hohenshelt (Place 2), Dennis Lewis (Place 4), and Mike Townsend (Place 6), filed appropriate paperwork to appear on the ballot in hopes of serving an additional two-year term in office.

The filing deadline to submit an application to run for city council in the General Election was Friday, February 19, and the last day to declare write-in candidacy on the ballot was February 23. The City Secretary did not receive candidate filings from anyone other than incumbents. Therefore, the Rockwall City Council will consider an ordinance cancelling the election due to no opposed candidates at its meeting on Monday, March 7. All three incumbents will take the Oath of Office at the regular city council meeting on Monday, May 16, to begin serving their additional term.
