Rockwall County Commissioner Dennis Bailey receives OK from TxDOT on traffic signal

(ROCKWALL, TX – Feb. 29, 2016) Rockwall County Commissioner Dennis Bailey received a letter this week from Texas Department of Transportation Area Engineer Jeffrey Bush, P.E. concerning his request in May of 2015 for a traffic signal.

“As per your request, a Traffic Signal Study was performed at SH 205 and FM 548. Based on this study TXDOT’s field investigation, we concur with the County’s request to install a traffic signal at this location. The traffic signal is currently under design and will be installed as soon as the design is completed. A left turn lane will also be provided for the northbound to westbound SH 205 to FM 548 turning movement,” said Jeffrey Bush, P. E., TxDOT.

“This intersection improvement will not only enhance traffic movement north and south on SH 205 but also is expected to minimize cut-through traffic in the Chisolm Ranch subdivision,” Bailey said.

Commissioner Bailey also noted, “We continue to ask for other enhancements to crossing traffic along SH 205 and ultimately seek widening of SH 205 throughout Rockwall County.”

Halff Associates has been hired by TxDOT to prepare a schematic and drainage report, hold public meetings, and make right-of-way and environmental constraints determinations to widen SH 205 from US 80 to SH 78.

“This planning work began in January of 2016 and will take approximately 18 months to complete,” Bailey said.

The efforts of the Rockwall County Consortium, made up of County and City officials, continue to support and make things happen relating to transportation throughout Rockwall County.
