(ROCKWALL/ROWLETT, TX – Feb. 3, 2016) The Rockwall Independent School District, in collaboration with Rockwall Sports Center and several other businesses and organizations in Rockwall, helped raise nearly $30,000 in just three weeks to aid the City of Rowlett’s tornado relief efforts.
Prior to the Rockwall-Rowlett high school basketball game Tuesday night, Rockwall ISD Superintendent Jeff Bailey, Athletic Director Russ Reeves, Sports Marketing/Media Coordinator Chris Curtis, KR Hooks and Jarred Hooks with Rockwall Sports Center presented a $29,727.30 check to Rowlett Mayor Todd Gottel, who accepted the donation on behalf of the City of Rowlett and the Rowlett Chamber Foundation. As a part of the school district’s Rise Together campaign, Rockwall Sports Center sold thousands of Rise Together t-shirts designed by Billy Quinton of QBall Designs, and with the generous donations of Samee’s Pizza Ghetti, Tucker Roofing, Baker Brothers, Rockwall Crossing Orthodontics, Farmers Insurance, Joe Wimpee, Alliance Bank, Max Muscle, Milestone Electric and Rockwall Mortgage, surpassed their goal of $20,000 to help rebuild Rowlett.
The Hilton Dallas/Rockwall Lakefront joined in on the fundraising effort by discounting its rooms for one night and donating the proceeds totaling $13,552.68 towards the cause.
“We partnered with the wonderful folks at Rockwall Sports and Rockwall ISD, and designated Friday, Jan. 29, as our day where we were to dedicate 100 percent of our overnight rental revenue for everybody who stayed at our hotel and make that into a donation,” Hilton Dallas/Rockwall Lakefront General Manager James Montgomery said.
Mayor Gottel spoke to the tremendous amount of volunteers and support Rowlett has received from the surrounding communities since the Dec. 26 F4 tornado left several homes in ruins and many without food or shelter.
“I want to thank everybody for their contribution, and say that all the volunteering that has been going on in the past couple of weeks is something that I cannot put into words,” Gottel said.
