(ROCKWALL, TX – March 21, 2016) The 2016 High School Water Polo Season has started out successfully for the HSAA Angel Water Polo Boys and Girls Teams. In two weekends of action, the HSAA Boys placed 5th at the Southlake Carroll Dragon Invite back on March 12. The boys finished the double elimination tournament with a 3-2 record defeating Irving 10-6, Southlake JV White 5-0 and Rockwall 12-7. Their losses came to the two-time defending state champions St. Marks 21-4 and Denton Guyer 10-8.
The Girls got off to a great start March 19 at the Irving Game day meet. They defeated MacArthur 12-6, then lost a great defensive battle to Lake Highlands 6-1.
The boys were split into A & B teams for the Irving meet. The HSAA B Boys defeated Irving Nimitz 17-4 and Grand Prairie 9-7. The HSAA A Boys defeated McKinney 11-1 and Irving MacArthur 15-1.
“Our kids are playing with so much confidence now, even with the new players we added,” said assistant coach Jim Hummingbird. “For the boys to have a 5-2 record in the first 2 meets is huge. And our girls played two teams they lost to last year and came out 1-1; you can’t ask for a better effort than that.”
The HSAA Angels Boys and Girls Water Polo teams will be back in action April 2 at the Grapevine-Colleyville Game Day. For more information and a schedule of games for this meet, please visit www.hsaa.org or contact Linda Fletcher at hsaah2opolo@gmail.com.
