(ROCKWALL, TX — April 29, 2016) The Home School Athletic Association (HSAA) Angels team in the nation has won it’s first championship in only it’s 3rd year of existence. The boys took 1st place and girls took 2nd place at the North Texas Consolidated High School Championships on Saturday, April 23 in Flower Mound.

In a record breaking season for the HSAA Angels — the only all home school high school water polo team in the nation — it was only fitting their season came down to the final 30 seconds. In a game that would determine the 2016 North Texas Consolidated High School Water Polo Championships, Keller and HSAA Boys were knotted up at 7-7 in the 4th quarter. With the clock winding down, Josiah Panak received a pass 8 meters in front of the goal. Without hesitation, he fired a shot that hit the back of the net putting the Angels in the lead for good. HSAA Boys win the championship game 8-7. But Josiah would be the first to tell you his “team” won the game.

“That’s the way these boys have played all year”, said Assistant Coach Jim Hummingbird. “They all earned this championship, every single one of them contributed.”

The boys earned a spot in the championship game by defeating Northwest ISD in the first round 12-5, then taking care of Rockwall-Heath Consolidated 8-6 to reach the finals.

Just as exciting was the HSAA Angel Girls team. In only the 2nd year of existence, the Lady Angels brought home 2nd place hardware. “The girls have absolutely shown the most improvement as they gave up an average of 10 goals per game last year and brought it down to 5 this year. They have really come a long way,” Hummingbird said. “Head Coach Angela Uno has turned them into defense dynamos.”

With their most experienced player only having played for 2 years, they downed Marcus 7-0 and Southlake Carroll JV 11-0 before losing to Rockwall-Heath Consolidated 10-3 in the finals. The girls were rewarded with 2nd place for the second year in a row. In a program that is just in three years of development, they have risen to the top of the ranks very quickly.
