(AUSTIN, TX – April 23, 2016) – One Man’s Treasure was presented the Reentry and Integration Division Award during the recent Governor’s 2016 Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Award program.
The award was presented by Texas Board of Criminal Justice Chairman Dale Wainwright and TDCJ Executive Director Brad Livingston during a ceremony in Austin.
“The unwavering dedication of these volunteers to help others succeed is truly inspiring,” said Livingston. “The impact of their efforts will be felt across the state of Texas for many years to come.”
“Volunteering is not a choice for the men and women being recognized today,” said Wainwright. “They see it as a responsibility and for that we’re thankful.”
One Man’s Treasure was founded in 2005 to empower men recently released from prison to the Dallas area by providing them with clothing and opportunities for networking. Over 6500 men have received clothing from One Man’s Treasure since it was founded. The 501 C3 organization collaborates with 29 other non-profit organizations, prison ministries and aftercare groups, as well as more than 15 transition homes and with TDCJ’s Parole, Chaplaincy and Reentry and Integration Divisions to identify men who will need clothing assistance. One Man’s Treasure clothes closet processing facility is in Rockwall and serves clients in seven north Texas counties (Dallas, Rockwall, Collin, Kaufman, Henderson, Denton and Tarrant).
Accepting the Governor’s 2016 Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Award was One Man’s Treasure Executive Director Annette Jenkins.
One Man’s Treasure is one of 6 organizations and 15 individuals from across the state recognized for their efforts to help inmates and those who are on parole or probation. They donate many hours of their personal time every year with the goal of changing the lives of convicted offenders, and aiding and comforting their victims.
In FY2015, there were 22,000 volunteers who provided a total of 262,442 hours of service.
