Rockwall Jacket Backers name Athletes of the Month

(ROCKWALL, TX – April 6, 2016) Lauren Baker and Zach Dougal were recently named Rockwall High School Jacket Backers April Lady Jacket Athlete of the Month and Yellowjacket Athlete of the Month, respectively.

Lauren Baker, a varsity member of the soccer team, was nominated by Coach Melissa Garcia, and chosen by the Jacket Backers board.

Lauren was the leading goal scorer for district 11-6A (19 goals, 6 assists) regular season with three goals in the Bi-District playoff game.

“Baker has been a role model both on and off the field. She asks questions, improves on things she needs to and will do what her team asks of her. She knows the game is a constant learning situation! She has matured this season on the field and her energy is infectious,” said soccer Coach Garcia.

Also nominated was Reagan Swindall (softball).

Zach Dougal, a varsity member of the gymnastics team, was nominated by Coach Cameron Sweny, and chosen by the Jacket Backers board.

The RHS men’s gymnastics team competed in only two meets this past month (one being a championship/qualifier meet). In the Battle for the Rock Zach scored a perfect 10.0 on Pommel horse at this meet. And at District Championships Zach took 2nd place on Pommel horse with a combined score of 18.8.

Zach has been near perfect in compulsory competition this season. His compulsory scores for the season are: 9.8, 9.9, 10.0, 9.9. Zach ranks 1st in the state on pommel horse for high score (10.0), and top 3 compulsory score average (9.933). His perfect 10.0 at Battle for the Rock was the first perfect 10.0 for our team this season. For optional competition, Zach scored his season high at the district championships on March 24. His top scores all counted for the team and helped the team finish to another District Championship (our 7th District title in a row).

“Zach works very hard in the gym, and has been very patient with making changes to his routines. I am very pleased to see that hard work pays off like it did at the District meet. Good luck to Zach at Regionals as our team competes for a spot at the state championships,” said Coach Sweny.

Also nominated was Diego Muniz (baseball) and Grant Freeman (soccer).
