Letter from Editor-in-Chief

Dawn Redig, Publisher/Editor-in-Chief

(ROCKWALL, TX – May 5, 2016) Over the years my family has celebrated Mother’s Day with breakfast in bed, a special dinner, or simply a day of planting flowers in the garden. Until recently, my own mother was caretaking my grandmother in New York, so I’d send their favorite fruit basket. But perhaps the best gift of all is the card or letter that accompanies these treats.

My daughter, now away at college, composes messages that prove I must have done something right to raise such a thoughtful young woman. My son, a junior in high school, places his hard-earned cash inside a card that he creates on the computer.  Their carefully chosen words mean the world to me, especially now that they’ve grown into young adults.

With Mother’s Day upon us, it seems appropriate to announce that our senior reporter, Austin Wells, is making his debut as the new editor of Blue Ribbon News.  I’ve always joked that launching BRN was like giving birth, and over the past five years, my husband and I have poured our hearts into making sure it grows up right. As I continue to oversee the publication as Editor-in-Chief, Austin will take on additional duties managing our print edition as well as BlueRibbonNews.com. As many of you already know, his interviewing, reporting, and writing skills are top notch, his photography is awesome, and and his stories resonate with readers of all ages. He is well-versed in traditional, digital and social media – able to stay on top of the ever-changing media landscape. Working with Austin, we are confident that BRN will continue to grow and serve this community well. And with the continued support of our readers and advertisers, we will deliver even more good news!
