(ROCKWALL, TX – May 12, 2016) If you are one of the hundreds of families who look forward to Memorial Day at Rest Haven Memorial Park every year, chances are you have already marked your calendar for 10 a.m. Monday, May 30. If you have not yet discovered Memorial Day at Rest Haven, this is a great year to start a new tradition for you and your family. A special Remembrance Ceremony, an Andrew Sisters Tribute concert, live demonstrations by Patriot Paws Service Dogs, and a Patriotic Pet Parade will highlight this year’s free community event.
Dewayne Cain, President and Founder of Rest Haven Funeral Homes & Memorial Park, promises that this year’s Remembrance Ceremony, Concert & Family Day will be better than ever.
“Not only have we added some very meaningful components to our patriotic ceremony this year,” Cain said, “but folks can also look forward to great music, free hot dogs, patriotic puppies and, I’m happy to say, Blue Bell is back and we will be dishing it out!”
Local veteran and military groups, including the American Legion, Civil Air Patrol and the Tri-County Veterans Honor Guard will participate in the Remembrance Ceremony honoring veterans who have sacrificed their lives while serving our country. The concert this year will feature the Reveille Sisters, crowd-pleasing entertainers who have a unique harmony reminiscent of the Andrews Sisters.
The Patriotic Pet Parade is a new addition to the event this year and is sure to be a crowd-pleaser. Prizes will be given for the best pet costumes including Most Patriotic, Most Creative and Best Pet-Human Lookalike. Pets must be leashed, up to date on vaccinations, people friendly and non-aggressive. For pet parade guidelines and registration, visit resthavenfuneral.com/who-we-are/community-events.
There will be hot dogs fresh off the grill, Blue Bell ice cream, and contests for the kids, all free of charge. Fishing enthusiasts of all ages are invited to bring their fishing poles and tackle for catch-and-release fishing at the well-stocked pond. The American Red Cross Blood Mobile will also be present at the event, and donors can register at redcrossblood.org using sponsor keyword: resthaven.
“My staff and I truly enjoy hosting this special day for the community every year,” Cain said. “We want everyone in Rockwall, Royse City, Rowlett and beyond to bring their patriotic pride, lawn chairs, fishing poles and appetites and experience Memorial Day at Rest Haven!”
Memorial Day at Rest Haven will be held under the big tent at Rest Haven Memorial Park located at 2500 State Highway 66 East, Rockwall, TX, 75087. Seating is available, but lawn chairs are welcomed and encouraged.
