(ROCKWALL, TX – May 31, 2016) Rep. John Ratcliffe selected Rockwall High School student, Eric Wimpee, to receive a 2016 “Rising Lone Star” award for his active involvement as an outstanding leader on his campus. Ratcliffe’s staff formally presented the award to Wimpee last week.
The “Rising Lone Star” award recognizes extraordinary acts of self-sacrifice or community service demonstrated by high school students in Texas’ Fourth District. The recipients are nominated for consideration by their principals, administrators or counselors.
Wimpee was nominated specifically for his active leadership in the National Honor Society, Student Advisory Council, Student Council and varsity athletics, which allowed him to be an influential role model for younger students at his school.
“It’s really incredible to see the positive impact that young people in Texas’ Fourth District are having on their schools and communities, and the ‘Rising Lone Star’ offers a prime opportunity to shed light on some of our most inspiring young leaders,” Ratcliffe said.
“I’d like to congratulate Eric for being selected as a recipient for this school year and encourage him keep working hard to positively impact others well after he graduates.”
