(Rockwall, Texas – May 5, 2016) Early signs of summer are finally upon us… as a flurry of activity ramps up in Downtown Rockwall this weekend. Residents have waited patiently all winter for the return of two favorite activities that signal the beginning of summer. The excitement mounts as both the San Jacinto Plaza Music Series and the Rockwall Farmers Market add to the lively Downtown Rockwall landscape with the beginning of the 2016 season.
The San Jacinto Plaza Music Series kicks off on Friday night with one of our own, Rockwall musician, Mark Franks and Bankhead Highway. In its inaugural season last year, residents have waited with anticipation for the live music series to return. Last year, thousands of residents gathered every week from May through September to enjoy live music in the intimate outdoor setting. Franks has performed as part of the San Jacinto Plaza Music Series twice before, always to a packed crowd.
Then, on Saturday morning, starting at 8 a.m., the Rockwall Farmers Market opens for the ninth year on the Downtown Square. Founded in 2008 by the Friends of Downtown Rockwall, Rockwall Farmers Market is widely popular for fresh produce, and specialty foods such as grass-fed beef, farm-fresh eggs and fresh baked artisan breads, just to name a few. For that reason, Rockwall Famers Market has also come to be known as one of the best in the Dallas area. The Farmers Market takes place on Saturday mornings in front of the Historic Courthouse in Downtown Rockwall, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, May through September.
Later on Saturday, there will be another huge crowd for the second night of the San Jacinto Plaza Music Series with Dallas musicians, Ryan Berg and the Velvet Ears, taking the stage. The band’s jazzy, pop sound has been likened to that of Jason Mraz, and they have a huge following throughout the DFW Metroplex and beyond. The music series runs on Friday and Saturday nights, from 6:30 – 9 p.m., May through September. While a handful of café-style tables and chairs fill the Plaza, guests are welcome to bring chairs as well as food and beverages.
