(ROCKWALL, TX – May 6, 2016) The nursing staff of Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Rockwall were recognized on National Nurses Day this morning in honor of their compassionate, dedicated, caring and professional services, as Mayor Jim Pruitt proclaimed the week of May 6-12, 2016 as Nurses Appreciation Week in the City of Rockwall.
Joining Mayor Pruitt in the proclamation ceremony was Alma Williams Howard, member of the Texas Health Rockwall Board of Managers, who thanked the nurses on behalf of the Rockwall community for their kindness and commitment to serving others.
“I am grateful for you every single day, and know that this whole community is grateful for you every single day,” Howard said. “Thanks for being on the front lines, thank you for smiling and thank you for caring.”
National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6 and ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale who is considered by many to be the founder of modern nursing. As of 1998, May 8 was designated as National Student Nurses Day, to be celebrated annually. And as of 2003, National School Nurse Day is celebrated on the Wednesday within National Nurses Week each year.
