Rockwall Rotary honors RISD students

(ROCKWALL, TX – June 13, 2016) The Rockwall Rotary Club’s Students of Honor program has been rewarding hardworking Rockwall ISD students for years. This year’s program director Tim Hartley, who was recently elected Rotary Club President for 2017, said the idea behind Students of Honor is to let diligent students know that they are appreciated.

Julia Keiser of Williams Middle School is one of several select students honored at Rotary.

“We want to recognize exemplary students in the community for doing great things,” Hartley said. “Rotary believes kids who do great things ought to be recognized for being great kids.”

The selection process for the students is managed by the principals and teachers at each school rather than the Rotary Club itself. After a student is chosen, he or she attends a Rotary Club meeting and receives a certificate of recognition. Hartley said each student’s guardians and principal often attend the meeting as well.

“It’s all about service and being able to serve these kids by recognizing the good kids they are,” Hartley said. “The best part is getting to meet the kids and their parents and being able to hear about what they did to receive this honor.”

The Rotary Club honored a total of 18 students in to 2015-2016 school year. Hartley said the program will continue next year as well.
