Mosquitoes Test Positive for West Nile, Citywide Spraying Continues

(ROCKWALL, TX – Aug. 4, 2016) On July 18, the City of Rockwall initiated a Mosquito Abatement Program consisting of fogging the entire city once a week based upon the recommendation of the City Health Official. City crews have been fogging streets between the hours of 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.

This week, the City received notification that two trapped mosquitoes tested positive for West Nile Virus. One was caught in the area of Jewel Park and the other was caught in the area of the Caruth Lakes subdivision. The City Health Official is recommending that bodies of water continue to be treated with a larvicide and to focus spraying on the areas in which positive tests were found.

The citywide spraying will continue through Friday, August 12, and then the City will concentrate efforts within a one-mile radius of the two areas where the mosquitoes were trapped. The City will continue to monitor the traps and take appropriate action as necessary throughout the remainder of the season. If you would like to request that your residence not be sprayed, please call (972) 771-7761 or email the Parks & Recreation Department at . For more information, please visit http://www.rockwall.com/mosquito.asp.
